Wisdom from Above
In the Bible, we see how God appeared to King Solomon in a dream. God said. "Ask, what shall I give you?" And Solomon said, "Give to your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern good and evil." Later in the same book of I Kings, it says "God gave King Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore".
Did you catch that? God told Solomon to "Ask". Did you know we can do the same? We can ask for heavenly wisdom from the One who knows all things!
James 1:5 -If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Okay now let's break this down a little further. "If anyone of you lacks wisdom". What does this show about our heart's posture? Humble before God, that we do not think we are wise in our own eyes, in our own abilities and even in our own "discernment". We know we need help. This is what we see in Solomon, a humble man asking of God.
Proverbs 26:12 -Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
There are two types of wisdom: earthly wisdom and wisdom from above, and God tell us what His Wisdom looks like.
James 3:13-18 -Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Wow, that clears things up. The Wisdom from Above is gentle, meek, pure, peaceable, open to reason, full of mercy, impartial and sincere!
There are times, "wisdom" spoken in the context of "discernment" is actually just the opposite. The fruit of its delivery is pride, suspicion, pointing of the finger, division and ultimately not of God.
❤️ Let us pursue the wisdom from above and ask God freely for it. God gave Solomon wisdom, exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart. That sounds like walking in humility and love to me. How beautiful is this picture of King Solomon a great leader, humbling himself before God asking for the qualities of heaven to impact the people around him.
People are drawn in when someone is speaking and acting in the true nature of God, and like Solomon they will line up to hear and see what is happening. Oh, how we can change the world around us, walking in the true nature of the Wisdom of God! ~love u.
