Isaiah 7:14-Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name “Emmanuel".
Isaiah in the above prophecy of God, foretold the future 700 years prior to the Birth of Jesus Christ.
It was proclaimed at a time of political turmoil and uncertainty, but the promise of “Emmanuel" was a beacon of hope, indicating God would not abandon His people even in their darkest times.
Matthew 1:22-23-Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”
The name Emmanuel is more than just a title, it is the very essence of God’s Presence among His people and His assurance of salvation, restoration, comfort and hope. True hope is not “wishful thinking” or “positive thoughts”, but the confident anticipation that goodness is coming. A rock- solid expectation, knowing the One who promised is faithful.
I have heard the question, why wasn’t Jesus named “Emmanuel”? “Emmanuel” represents His nature, not a literal name. Much like, “Wonderful Counselor”, “Prince of Peace”, and so on...these are names of God that show His nature and attributes describing His power and work, and “Jesus" is the literal name of the One who was sent in the flesh to bring God’s Presence to mankind.
❤️💚In light of this Christmas season, and all the things going on in our present world, as believers we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, our “Emmanuel”, embracing the promise of "God with us”. Living out that truth in our lives in the power of His presence, knowing we never walk alone. ~Merry Christmas!
Romans 15:13- “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
